About this experience
Experience the ultimate Tanzanian adventure by combining the iconic 5-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb via the classic Marangu Route with a thrilling 2-Day Wildlife Safari through Tanzania’s premier northern national parks: Tarangire National Park and the UNESCO World Heritage Ngorongoro Crater. This 7-day seamless expedition allows travelers to conquer Africa’s highest peak with the comfort of permanent hut accommodations, followed immediately by immersive game drives in search of the Big Five, vast elephant herds, and stunning rift valley landscapes. Day-by-Day Itinerary: Day 1: Moshi/Arusha to Marangu Gate (1,860m) – Mandara Hut (2,700m) Activities: Morning pick-up from your hotel and drive to Marangu Gate for national park registration and permits. Hike 3 to 4 hours (8 km) through a lush montane rainforest filled with exotic flora and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Enjoy an optional short walk to Maundi Crater for panoramic views before returning to the hut. Accommodation: Mandara Hut (A-frame wooden hut with bunk beds & mattresses) Meals Included: Lunch & Dinner Day 2: Mandara Hut (2,700m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m) Activities: Emerge from the rainforest canopy into open moorland and heather vegetation. Trek 5 to 6 hours (12 km) along rolling hills with striking, unobstructed views of Mawenzi Peak and the snow-capped summit of Kibo. Accommodation: Horombo Hut (A-frame wooden hut with bunk beds & mattresses) Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 3: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,703m) Activities: Trek 5 to 6 hours (9 km) across the desolate, wind-swept alpine desert known as the "Saddle"—the barren plateau connecting Mawenzi and Kibo. Arrive at Kibo Hut by early afternoon to rest, hydrate, receive a detailed summit briefing, and enjoy an early dinner prior to the midnight summit push. Accommodation: Kibo Hut (Dormitory-style stone hut with bunk beds) Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 4: Summit Day – Kibo Hut (4,703m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Descent to Horombo Hut (3,720m) Activities: Wake around 11:30 PM for warm tea and snacks. Begin the steep, midnight zigzag ascent up scree slopes to Gilman’s Point (5,685m) at sunrise. Continue 1 to 2 hours along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the roof of Africa! Celebrate and capture photo memories, then descend back to Kibo Hut for rest and brunch before continuing down to Horombo Hut. Accommodation: Horombo Hut (A-frame wooden hut with bunk beds & mattresses) Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Day 5: Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Marangu Gate (1,860m) & Transfer to Karatu Activities: Complete a steady 5 to 6-hour (20 km) descent through the rainforest back to Marangu Gate to receive your official TANAPA summit certificates.
